Racing icon Rachael Blackmore, who retired from her illustrious career last year, has revealed that she and fellow jockey Brian Hayes are expecting their first child. The couple recently got married in a cozy ceremony in West Cork on January 5, marking over a decade of knowing each other.
The joyful news was shared by Rachael on her Instagram story, where she posted a picture of her Volvo car with a baby pram in the boot, playfully mentioning the change in contents. Throughout her racing journey, the 36-year-old made history as the first woman to win the Grand National and to be the leading jockey at Cheltenham, accumulating a total of 575 wins in her professional career.
Having announced her retirement in May last year after partnering with Minella Times for a victory at Aintree, Rachael’s remarkable achievements included being the leading rider at the Cheltenham Festival in 2021. Notable wins in various prestigious races highlighted her career, with honors such as the World Sports Star award at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards.
Rachael and Brian, who have been friends for more than ten years since meeting at a stable in Co Carlow, have a shared history beyond racing.
