Guy Hovis, a renowned singer, has passed away at the age of 86 after battling an illness in the hospital. Known for his appearances on The Lawrence Welk Show, Hovis had a successful career that included 15 albums and a performance at President George W. Bush’s inauguration.
Teaming up with his former wife Ralna English, they formed the musical duo ‘Guy & Ralna’ and were regulars on Welk’s show. Hovis’ daughter Julie confirmed his peaceful passing in Oxford, Mississippi.
Julie shared that her father had been undergoing treatment for an undisclosed illness in recent weeks. Ralna English, Hovis’ ex-wife and musical partner, updated her Facebook followers on his deteriorating condition after his hospitalization.
“We are all devastated by the news of Guy’s passing,” she expressed. Despite their split, English and Hovis maintained a strong friendship for nearly half a century, driven by their daughter and their musical harmony.
Hovis later remarried to Sarah “Sis” Lundy, with whom he had three children and five grandchildren. Notable among his achievements are nominations from the Gospel Music Association and his performance of “Let the Eagle Soar” at George W. Bush’s inauguration in 2005.
