Tensions escalated between Iran and the United States as an Iranian leader issued a stern warning to President Donald Trump, asserting readiness for action with the trigger at hand. General Mohammad Pakpour, head of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, issued the caution amidst the backdrop of US warships moving towards the Middle East. The Revolutionary Guard, known for suppressing recent anti-government protests, remains on high alert as friction persists between the two nations following the violent crackdown on demonstrators in Iran.
In a statement on Saturday, Pakpour also cautioned the US and Israel to avoid any misjudgments. He emphasized Iran’s preparedness to execute directives promptly, stating, “The Islamic Revolutionary Guards and dear Iran stand more ready than ever, finger on the trigger, to execute the orders and directives of the Commander-in-Chief.”
The unrest in Iran, sparked by economic turmoil in late December, led to widespread protests lasting approximately two weeks. The government’s forceful response resulted in an estimated death toll of over 3,000 individuals.
President Trump has reiterated his warnings to Tehran, setting clear boundaries for potential military action. Pointing to the violent suppression of peaceful demonstrators and mass arrests during the protests, Trump emphasized his resolve. He announced the deployment of warships towards Iran as a precautionary measure, noting the significant naval presence in the region and hinting at possible actions if necessary.
A US Navy official, speaking anonymously, disclosed the movement of the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier and accompanying warships in the Indian Ocean. Meanwhile, Trump continued his strong rhetoric towards Iran, indicating a willingness to take decisive military action surpassing previous strikes on Iranian facilities.
Despite a lull in public demonstrations in Iran, the death toll continues to rise as reports from activists trickle out amidst a widespread internet blackout imposed by the regime. The situation remains tense as both Iran and the US maintain their positions, raising concerns over potential further escalation.
