Ashton Kutcher has shared that he delved into a manifesto written by a domestic terrorist in preparation for his latest antagonistic role.
The 47-year-old actor collaborates with Evan Peters in FX’s new body horror thriller series called “The Beauty,” created by Ryan Murphy. The show revolves around FBI agents investigating a virus that enhances individuals’ appearance but leads to fatal outcomes.
In the series, Kutcher plays the character Byron Forst, also known as ‘The Corporation,’ a tech tycoon responsible for developing the substance behind the chaos in the show.
Before the show’s debut, Kutcher admitted to reading the manifesto of American terrorist Ted Kaczynski, also known as The Unabomber, who carried out fatal attacks between 1978 and 1995. Kutcher’s character in the series has shades of moral ambiguity, prompting him to explore Kaczynski’s mindset for insights into portraying a morally complex role.
During a press conference, Kutcher revealed his unconventional reading habits, mentioning a banned book club he participates in. He highlighted the value of understanding differing perspectives, even if not agreeing with them entirely.
Kutcher reflected on the rationalization of villainous actions and emphasized the complexity of portraying a character who believes in the righteousness of his deeds.
“The Beauty” is currently available for streaming on Disney+, with the first three episodes already released.
