EDF is introducing a promotion where customers can enjoy complimentary electricity on Sundays by reducing their electricity consumption during peak hours on weekdays. The initiative, known as the Sunday Saver challenge, is set to run throughout February.
To qualify for free electricity, customers must shift their electricity usage away from peak hours between 4pm and 7pm on weekdays. In return, they will receive between four and 16 hours of free electricity the following Sunday. EDF customers can participate in four Sunday Saver challenges scheduled for February 15 and 22, and March 1 and 8.
Customers with smart meters can sign up for the promotion until Sunday, February 1. EDF reports that over 260,000 households have already benefitted from more than 17 million free hours of electricity through the Sunday Saver initiative, with £5.2 million in savings credited to customers’ bills.
During the Christmas period, over 100,000 customers enjoyed eight hours of free electricity, totaling 910,536 free hours distributed by EDF. Natasha Shields from Barnsley, South Yorkshire, shared her positive experience, having earned over 680 free hours on Sundays, which has helped her family manage living expenses amidst increasing costs.
Jon Perks, Sales & Marketing Director at EDF, emphasized the practicality of the Sunday Saver program in reducing costs for customers during the peak winter billing period. He highlighted that customers can monitor their energy usage through the Energy Hub to identify opportunities for electricity savings and reduce their carbon footprint.
Furthermore, EDF is offering a £50 credit to new and existing customers who sign up for any of its electric vehicle (EV) tariffs within the next month. The EV tariffs, including GoElectric, Pod Point EV Exclusive, Evolve, and Pod Point Plug & Power, provide customers with five hours of discounted electricity every night between 12 am and 5 am for both their homes and electric vehicles.
Customers can track their Sunday Saver progress through the Energy Hub via MyAccount, gaining insights into their household’s energy consumption patterns. EDF’s efforts aim to provide customers with cost-saving opportunities while contributing to a more sustainable electricity grid.
