A CCTV recording has captured the dramatic moment when an explosion occurred at the reception of a building in Istanbul, a popular tourist destination.
The incident unfolded when a suspicious package was delivered to the reception of a residential complex in Istanbul. The package was placed on the front desk in the lobby, and as seen in the footage, a man made an attempt to open it, leading to the explosion.
The detonation of the small package resulted in an explosion that injured the man and two building staff members, engulfing them in smoke and flames. The force of the blast caused items to be thrown across the reception area, leaving behind debris, documents, and broken glass scattered on the floor.
The reception area sustained significant damage, creating a noticeable empty space where the package was originally placed. According to reports from The Sun, a delivery driver had left the package just moments before the explosion occurred.
Emergency services quickly responded to the scene in Zeytinburnu, Istanbul, on January 11, after the blast left the two staff members with minor injuries. The injured individuals were initially treated at the site before being transferred to a nearby hospital, where they received medical care and were later discharged.
Following the incident, authorities cordoned off the building, and forensic teams arrived to conduct an investigation alongside law enforcement officers. The cause of the explosion is still under investigation, as the injured staff members shared their accounts of the events leading up to the blast.
One of the injured staff members, Harun Arkin, reported that the courier did not have a company logo on the package, raising suspicions. Berra Köse, another staff member present during the explosion, mentioned that there were concerns about the package and the courier’s behavior prior to the detonation.
The staff members were commended by the EVA Group, responsible for building security, for their actions that potentially prevented a more severe outcome from the explosion.
