“O2 Warns iPhone & Android Users of Deactivation Scam”

An urgent warning has been issued to millions of iPhone and Android users by O2 due to a new scam targeting UK customers. The scam involves a fraudulent message claiming that customers’ SIM cards are on the verge of deactivation for not accepting updated Terms and Conditions. The message uses urgent language and appears to be from an official O2 number, making it challenging to identify as a fake.

The text reads, “O2UK: IMPORTANT: Your SIM Card(s) will be inactive on 04/06/2026, because you have NOT signed our Terms and Conditions. Logon to sign.” Along with the deactivation threat, the message contains a link leading to a fake website aimed at stealing personal information. Scammers may then attempt to access MyO2 accounts and other online accounts using stolen details.

Customers who receive such messages should not click on any links but instead verify the authenticity of the message through the official O2 website or app or by contacting the network directly. Murray Mackenzie, Director of Fraud Prevention at Virgin Media O2, cautioned that scammers are employing increasingly sophisticated tactics.

Virgin Media O2 is actively working to protect individuals from scams by blocking scam texts and websites and enhancing fraud monitoring on online accounts. The public is encouraged to report suspicious messages to 7726 to enable faster shutdown of scams at the source. O2 has offered advice to customers to safeguard themselves, including avoiding clicking on unexpected links, verifying message authenticity, and changing passwords immediately if login details have been compromised.
