A man in Bootle was struck in the head with an axe, causing a scene of blood, according to witnesses. The incident led to a significant police presence at Bootle Strand shopping center in Liverpool. Merseyside Police closed off parts of Stanley Road within the center, including various shops and restaurants.
Eyewitnesses reported the violent attack, with one McDonald’s staff member mentioning the victim’s head being bandaged by paramedics shortly after the incident. Forensic officers were observed gathering evidence near Burger King, focusing on a bench where a bag and coat were removed.
Another witness, a nearby shop worker, described the victim’s injuries as consistent with an axe blow to the side of the face. The police believe the attack originated elsewhere on Stanley Road before the victim made his way to the Strand area.
Not directly witnessing the event, a KFC worker noted the arrival of emergency services and reports circulating among diners about the axe attack. Merseyside Police confirmed the assault, stating the victim suffered cuts to the head and face from a bladed weapon. The authorities urged anyone with information to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
Detective Inspector Sara Lang emphasized the importance of cooperation from the public to uncover the circumstances surrounding the assault. A cordoned-off area near the bingo hall on Stanley Road is central to the investigation. Individuals with relevant information were encouraged to contact the authorities via various channels, including Merseyside Police’s dedicated communication platforms.
