“Yorkshire Furniture Company Enters Administration, 124 Jobs Lost”

A renowned furniture company based in Yorkshire has entered administration, resulting in 124 staff members being made redundant and leaving many others uncertain about their future.

Established in 1947, Moores Furniture Group specialized in supplying kitchens to both housebuilders and homeowners nationwide for close to 80 years. The company’s management attributes the collapse to escalating costs, a decline in housebuilding activities, and challenging market conditions.

Administrators have disclosed that 336 employees will remain to fulfill existing orders, but their prospects moving forward remain uncertain. Certain assets of the business, such as the customer database and intellectual property, have been acquired by competitor Wren Kitchens, which anticipates potential opportunities for affected personnel.

Support is being extended to displaced workers to assist them in claiming redundancy payments and benefits. Wren Kitchens expressed regret over Moores’ closure but expressed optimism that the acquisition could open up avenues for impacted employees in other regions of the UK.

The closure of Moores comes amidst broader struggles within the UK business landscape. Caldwell Construction Limited, founded in 2007, has also gone into administration this week.

Joint administrator James Clark remarked on the challenges faced by the construction industry in the UK, affecting businesses across the supply chain. Redundancies and closures are increasingly prevalent in British commercial areas, attributed to mounting expenses, inflation, Brexit-related supply chain disruptions, and a slowdown in construction and manufacturing activities.
