Users of various devices, including Samsung models, have been encountering screen flickering issues while using the Gmail app. Some individuals have reported instances where text disappears entirely, while others see only blank white boxes instead of their email messages.
Frustrated Gmail users have taken to social media platforms to express their grievances about these technical glitches. One individual named Jeremiah posted on X, directing a message to @gmail, expressing frustration over the flickering problem persisting on his Samsung Fold for four days, specifically on the inner screen.
Similar complaints have surfaced on Google’s support forums, with one user detailing the challenges faced when trying to read emails due to the persistent screen flickering issue, despite attempting various troubleshooting methods like force-stopping the app, clearing the cache, restarting the device, and ensuring all updates were installed.
Google’s product expert, Kimiya Kitani, has indicated that the problem seems to be associated with Android System WebView, a critical component that enables apps to display web content within the application itself. Kitani mentioned that certain devices, particularly Samsung tablets, are experiencing intermittent issues with Android System WebView, which has been reported to Google for resolution.
While the exact number of affected users remains unclear, reports suggest that Samsung foldable devices such as the Galaxy Z Fold series and specific Galaxy tablets are among the most impacted devices. As a temporary workaround, Kitani recommends rotating the device as it can often mitigate the flickering problem temporarily.
To address the issue until a permanent fix is released by Google, users are advised to open emails in portrait mode, rotate the device to landscape mode until the screen displays correctly, and then switch back to portrait mode. This simple solution appears to be effective while users await a lasting resolution from Google.
