Prince Harry recently shared his thoughts on Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis during the ongoing tensions within the royal family, which may have upset his brother, Prince William, according to a royal expert. Harry has emphasized his role as the ‘spare’ to his brother and expressed concerns about the impact this has had on his mental well-being. He highlighted his worries for Charlotte and Louis, describing them as ‘spares’ compared to their elder brother, Prince George.
During an interview with The Telegraph to promote his book, Harry mentioned that while William had clarified that his children were not Harry’s responsibility, he still felt a sense of duty knowing that one of the three children might end up in a similar position to him. Although William has not publicly addressed the rift with Harry, an expert suggested that he may not have appreciated the comments about his own children.
The expert, former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond, pointed out that Harry’s feelings of being a ‘spare’ do not necessarily apply to his nephews and nieces. She highlighted examples of other royals, like the Duke of Edinburgh and the Princess Royal, who did not feel like ‘spares’ and worked diligently regardless of their positions. Bond emphasized that Charlotte and Louis have significant roles and privileges ahead of them and should not feel overlooked just because Harry felt that way.
While George is expected to inherit the throne in the future, Prince William and Duchess Kate strive to treat all their children equally and maintain a sense of normalcy at home. William, who understands the weight of his future responsibilities, wants his children to have a typical upbringing with emotional support. He has emphasized that within their family unit, they are just like any other normal family, and he cherishes his children in a typical fatherly manner.
The close bond shared among George, Charlotte, and Louis is evident, and it is likely that the younger siblings will continue to support their big brother both in their royal duties and in private moments.
