“Matchroom CEO Denies Fixing Claims in Joshua vs. Paul Fight”

Matchroom CEO, Frank Smith, refuted claims that the upcoming fight between Jake Paul and Anthony Joshua will be fixed. Speculations arose last week regarding a potential showdown between Joshua and Paul this Christmas, and on Monday, the official announcement confirmed the heavyweight bout set for December 19 in Miami. The fight will consist of eight three-minute rounds with both fighters wearing 10oz gloves.

Despite Paul facing accusations of fixing fights since his professional debut in 2020, he has consistently denied any wrongdoing. Criticism from the boxing community has labeled the fight between Paul and Joshua as ‘rigged.’ However, Smith, a key figure in Eddie Hearn’s team, dismissed these allegations, emphasizing that it is a standard professional fight.

The highly anticipated clash between Joshua and Paul will be streamed live on Netflix, available to fans through Sky’s £15 Essential TV bundle. Smith emphasized Joshua’s determination to win, stating that Joshua is focused on knocking out Paul on December 19.

Paul had initially called for a fight with Joshua earlier this year, and after various discussions, Joshua agreed to the match. Paul’s last fight was a decision victory over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in June, following which a planned bout against Gervonta Davis was canceled due to legal issues. Paul’s call-outs to other boxing stars led to Joshua accepting the challenge, much to the surprise of many. Smith revealed that the fight materialized swiftly, with Joshua stepping up to the challenge.

Acknowledging the level of competition Joshua represents, Smith expressed reservations about Paul’s decision to face him, suggesting it might be a step too far for the YouTuber-turned-boxer. The Miami clash between Joshua and Paul is scheduled just days before Christmas, with the fight likely to begin around 11 pm local time, catering to the American audience. Viewers can watch the event live on Netflix, with the fight time subject to change based on the undercard duration.
