A man described as a “master manipulator” carved his initials into his girlfriend’s leg with a knife before requesting affection from her. James Freeman, known for heavy drinking, inflicted severe wounds on the woman’s leg, causing visible tissue damage, and then proceeded to ask for cuddles and kisses. These disturbing acts were disclosed at Hull Crown Court, where Freeman, aged 27 and residing in Hull, admitted to multiple offenses, including causing grievous bodily harm and assault.
Prosecutors revealed that Freeman and the woman initiated a relationship in September 2024, leading to a tumultuous living situation in Freeman’s flat. In one harrowing incident in May 2024, Freeman, under the influence of alcohol and drugs, cut the woman’s leg with a knife, leaving deep incisions and even carving his initials into her skin. Despite her pleas to stop, Freeman persisted and even seemed pleased with the harm he caused.
Subsequent violent episodes involved Freeman driving his car at the woman and suffocating her during altercations. Additionally, Freeman was reported to have put out a cigarette on her hand and leg, causing extreme pain. Despite these abuses, the victim felt compelled to return to Freeman due to his persistent apologies and messages.
Freeman’s defense attorney acknowledged his client’s inappropriate behavior and personal issues, expressing remorse for the harm inflicted on the victim. Following legal proceedings, Freeman was sentenced to two years in prison and received a five-year restraining order. The victim’s grandfather, deeply concerned about her wellbeing, condemned Freeman’s actions, labeling him as a “self-confessed sociopath” and warning of potential future harm.
