Suzy Greenwood, 39, made a life-altering decision to transition from the bustling London cityscape to a more serene campervan lifestyle in Devon. Having devoted 15 years to climbing the PR career ladder, Suzy’s perspective shifted when the pandemic struck in 2020.
During the lockdown period, Suzy found herself residing with family in Devon and soon realized her diminishing attachment to her Shepherd’s Bush urban dwelling. Reflecting on her twenties in London, she noticed her peers settling down, feeling a disconnect from her previous lifestyle.
A newfound love for coastal living blossomed during lockdown, particularly in the picturesque South Hams region, where she spent time at her grandparents’ B&B. This deep affection for Devon led Suzy to sell her London flat and acquire the family business, embarking on a significant life transformation.
Undertaking a substantial renovation project on the B&B, Suzy revamped it into a guesthouse with two hot tubs, investing her savings into the endeavor. To supplement her income, she decided to rent out the annexe while also embracing a nomadic lifestyle in her campervan, a converted Volkswagen Caddy equipped with essential amenities.
Despite occasional isolation in remote areas, Suzy has found solace in her adventures on the road, exploring coastal paths, indulging in sea swims, and even trying her hand at fishing. Her financial situation has markedly improved post-transition, allowing her to relish weekends on a budget, contrary to her previous extravagant dining habits.
Concerns about forging new friendships in her thirties dissipated as Suzy discovered a diverse social circle through activities like yoga, hiking, and wild swimming. While uncertainty initially loomed over her shift to remote work in Devon, Suzy now eyes a full-time commitment to managing her guesthouse, bidding farewell to her corporate career.
