Paul Doyle displayed visible distress in court as he was seen shedding tears while disturbing footage of his reckless actions was shown to the victims. The courtroom was filled with the injured individuals and their families, many of whom had to be accommodated in an overflow room due to the high turnout.
Gasps and tears filled the room as the CCTV and dashcam videos revealed the chaos and devastation caused by Doyle’s actions. Despite his composed appearance in a suit and tie, Doyle couldn’t hold back his emotions and struggled to speak, even nodding tearfully when asked to confirm his name.
The prosecution emphasized the gravity of Doyle’s actions, describing the footage as “truly shocking,” which left the families visibly shaken as they passed tissues among themselves. Doyle, who initially denied any responsibility, changed his plea only recently, moments before the prosecution was set to present its case.
As details of Doyle’s false statements to the police were disclosed, the families in court expressed disbelief. Contrary to his claims, the dashcam footage exposed the truth, portraying his account as “false and distorted.” Victim impact statements were read out, revealing the lasting mental and physical trauma suffered by many of the 134 injured individuals.
Throughout the proceedings, Doyle remained impassive, seated between prison officers, as the court heard harrowing accounts of the enduring trauma inflicted on children, adults, and the elderly. Doyle has confessed to 31 charges, including multiple counts of causing grievous bodily harm and dangerous driving. His sentencing is scheduled to conclude the following day.
