“Baby Toy Purchased on TikTok Speaks Disturbing Words”

A relative who purchased a baby toy for his one-year-old nephew on TikTok was shocked to discover the toy speaking 10 unsettling words. Aaron Green from Wythenshawe bought the jellyfish toy for £8.62 in October to give as a Christmas gift. Marketed as an ‘electric dancing jellyfish toy’ with LED lights and music features, the toy was supposed to dance and play music without any audio capabilities, according to reports from the Manchester Evening News.

Initially pleased with the purchase, the family only became concerned when Aaron’s sister shared a video on Monday, January 12, showing the toy unexpectedly vocalizing. The plastic creature was recorded saying, “Live audio now being transmitted to data centre for analysis.”

Following this, additional recordings captured the same voice speaking indistinct words. TikTok is currently investigating the product, and the listing has been removed from the platform, although it remains accessible on other online retail sites.

Aaron expressed his surprise at the toy’s behavior, mentioning that it was intended to be a simple dancing and music-playing toy. Despite claiming to have AI obstacle avoidance, he doubted its capabilities given its low price. He emphasized his concern over the toy’s unexpected statements, cautioning that even if it isn’t recording, it could still be distressing.

After researching the toy’s origins in a Chinese toy factory, Aaron’s sister no longer wants to use it with her nephew. TikTok has not confirmed if the toy can record audio but has assured customers of safety measures, such as seller verification, reporting options, and return policies.

A TikTok spokesperson stated that they have removed the product for investigation to prioritize customer safety. Attempts to locate the product page again resulted in a message stating it was not available in the region or country.

TikTok continues to ensure customer safety through various measures and has taken immediate action to address the toy issue.
