Meghan Markle is set to make a return to the UK after four years to accompany Prince Harry at the upcoming Invictus Games. The Duchess of Sussex is scheduled to attend an event in Birmingham on July 10, pending security approval, marking her first visit since the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022.
According to a source cited by the Sun, security considerations will play a crucial role in determining whether the 44-year-old American will travel to the UK with her husband. In the past, Meghan has participated in pre-Games ceremonies in Canada and Germany alongside Prince Harry.
The timing coincides with Harry awaiting the outcome of a security review funded by taxpayers, involving a committee comprising police, royal, and government experts assessing his request for taxpayer-funded armed security. Previously, Harry expressed concerns about the safety of bringing his family back to the UK, but a positive review outcome could pave the way for Meghan’s return after four years.
Details remain unclear regarding whether their children, six-year-old Archie and four-year-old Lilibet, will join them during the summer visit. The children have not visited the UK since the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in June 2022, where Meghan faced booing upon arrival at St Paul’s Cathedral.
Recent reports suggest that Harry, 41, desires King Charles to inaugurate the Birmingham Games in July 2027. While invitations have not been officially extended, the Sun reports that the King and other royals will be invited to attend.
Meghan has been a constant presence at the Invictus Games, standing alongside Prince Harry to support wounded, injured, and sick service personnel. Her involvement dates back to 2017 in Toronto, where she made her debut appearance with Harry, garnering attention for her warm interactions with participants and their families.
Throughout subsequent events, Meghan has been seen enthusiastically cheering on participants, attending medal ceremonies, and engaging with athletes behind the scenes, emphasizing the event’s spirit of resilience and camaraderie. Notably, during the 2018 Sydney Games, she continued her support for the cause despite scaling back some engagements while pregnant with Prince Archie.
