“UK and France Troop Deployments Leave Putin Uncertain”

A former Russian Prime Minister has remarked that the commitment of the UK and France to deploy troops in Ukraine has had a significant impact and has left Vladimir Putin uncertain about his next steps.

Mikhail Kasyanov highlighted that the formation of a coalition of willing nations has created a dilemma for the Russian leader. This development followed statements by Keir Starmer announcing plans for military installations in Ukraine if a peace agreement is reached.

During an interview on Times Radio, Mr. Kasyanov emphasized that Putin will need to adjust his approach. He noted that the recent actions in Paris by the coalition of willing countries have shifted the dynamics and separated the issue of security assurances for Ukraine from other considerations.

The former Prime Minister stated, “The current strategy is focused on meeting the demands of Mr. Trump rather than yielding to Putin’s requests.”

He continued, “The reaffirmation of transatlantic unity, supported by Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff, solidifies the agreements reached and puts pressure on Putin. The presence of troops on the ground is a pivotal development, leaving Putin in a state of uncertainty.”

Mr. Kasyanov added, “The recent show of solidarity underscores that Ukraine will receive unwavering support from European nations with the backing of the US, increasing the pressure on Putin to adjust his stance.”

The UK has committed to constructing secure facilities for weaponry and military gear to assist Kyiv in its defense efforts. A joint declaration signed in Paris by the UK Prime Minister, French President, and Ukrainian leader paves the way for British and French military presence following a ceasefire agreement.

This development came after Dmitry Rogozin, a close aide to Putin, criticized Keir Starmer for proposing the stationing of British troops in Ukraine as part of a peace deal, warning of potential retaliation from Russia.

In a significant move, Steve Witkoff, representing Donald Trump, confirmed US support for security guarantees and readiness to deter Russian aggression in Ukraine. The proposed plan includes a multinational force led by European countries, with potential involvement from non-European allies, including the US.

The declaration outlines participation in US-led ceasefire monitoring, long-term backing for the Ukrainian military, and assistance for Kyiv in the event of future Russian hostilities.

Keir Starmer expressed optimism about the collaboration between European and American allies in promoting peace efforts. He emphasized the progress made but acknowledged that challenges lie ahead.
