Gail’s bakery chain has announced that ten of its establishments will be open for business on Christmas Day. Customers visiting these locations on December 25 will receive complimentary mince pies. Additionally, all Gail’s bakeries will maintain regular operating hours on Christmas Eve and Boxing Day.
In a social media post on Instagram, Gail’s expressed that some of their bakeries will welcome guests on Christmas Day, providing a cozy spot for a coffee or a loaf of bread. As a token of appreciation, customers stopping by will receive a free mince pie until supplies last.
Recognizing diverse holiday celebrations, Gail’s emphasized that their teams make personal choices each year on how to observe the season.
The bakery chain recently disclosed plans to expand its presence by opening 40 new stores in England, extending beyond London. With 36 cafes launched in the previous financial year, including initial locations in the south west of England, Gail’s aims to unveil the next 40 outlets by February 2026.
Financial reports revealed that Gail’s generated sales of £278 million in the fiscal year ending February 2025, marking a 20% increase from the prior year. However, pre-tax losses climbed to £7.8 million due to business expenses and staffing costs associated with new store openings.
By February’s end, Gail’s employed over 4,000 staff, a boost of approximately 500 employees compared to the previous year following recruitment efforts. The company also operates a wholesale division supplying baked goods to supermarkets like Waitrose and Ocado.
Gail’s signature sourdough loaf is priced starting at around £4.80, with the retail segment identified as the group’s faster-growing and more profitable sector.
A spokesperson expressed satisfaction with the company’s robust growth, attributing it to the rising demand for high-quality, nutrient-dense food and the support of local communities. Gail’s remains dedicated to expanding purposefully while enhancing access to quality food offerings.
