“Trump Claims Iran Open to Negotiations Amid Rising Tensions”

Following President Donald Trump’s recent warning to Iran amid ongoing demonstrations that have reportedly resulted in at least 544 deaths, Trump stated that Iran is interested in engaging in negotiations. The response from Iran to this statement remains unknown at present.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, addressing foreign diplomats in Tehran, accused Israel and the U.S. of instigating the violence, claiming that they aimed to create a pretext for American intervention. Araghchi’s remarks were broadcast by the Qatar-based Al Jazeera satellite news network, despite the country’s internet shutdown.

Iran has urged pro-government supporters to take to the streets to demonstrate allegiance to the ruling system, following a series of protests challenging Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s authority. State television in Iran aired footage of crowds chanting anti-American and anti-Israeli slogans.

President Trump and his national security team are reportedly considering various responses to the situation in Iran, including potential cyberattacks and military strikes by the U.S. or Israel. Trump emphasized that the U.S. military is exploring strong options and is prepared to respond decisively if Iran escalates the conflict.

While Trump mentioned ongoing talks to arrange a meeting with Iranian officials, he suggested that preemptive action might be necessary given the rising death toll and continued arrests of protesters in Iran.

Iran’s parliamentary speaker issued a warning that the U.S. military and Israel could become “legitimate targets” if the U.S. intervenes to protect demonstrators. The Human Rights Activists News Agency reported over 10,600 detentions during the protests, with 496 protesters and 48 security personnel among the reported fatalities.

Due to the communication blackout in Iran, monitoring the protests from abroad has become challenging, with concerns that hard-line factions within the security apparatus may resort to severe crackdowns. Videos circulating online have captured ongoing demonstrations, with reports of streets emptying during prayer times as a precaution against potential violence.

Authorities in Iran have issued warnings via text messages, cautioning against participation in protests and highlighting the risks of violence and potential repercussions for involvement in anti-government activities.

The protests initially sparked by economic grievances have evolved into broader challenges to Iran’s ruling establishment, fueled by economic hardships exacerbated by international sanctions linked to the country’s nuclear program.
