The White House under Donald Trump has revealed an impromptu press briefing scheduled for today. The updated Daily Schedule now includes a press conference featuring Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt. The topic of discussion for the briefing remains undisclosed, coinciding with public uproar following the tragic shooting of an unarmed woman by an ICE agent in Minnesota.
Since early morning, a multitude of demonstrators has congregated around an immigration enforcement center in St. Paul, Minnesota, in response to the shooting of Renee Nicole Good, a mother of three, by an ICE agent as she attempted to drive away.
The press conference is set to occur at 1pm in Washington DC, corresponding to 6pm UK time. Notably, in a post on Truth Social following the incident, Trump alleged inaccurately that video evidence depicted the driver intentionally running over the ICE agent, causing injury, which was not the case.
Moreover, Trump stated that the officer who fired the shots was in the hospital, though there is no evidence to support this claim. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz denounced the dissemination of false information and criticized the chaotic response to the incident.
Video footage of the event shows an officer firing multiple shots at the vehicle as it moved away, resulting in the vehicle crashing. Shortly after the occurrence, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem categorized the incident as an “act of domestic terrorism,” a claim refuted by Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey.
Frey dismissed the official account from the Department of Homeland Security, asserting that the use of force was unwarranted and led to the tragic outcome. The conflicting narratives surrounding the incident have sparked controversy and raised concerns about the actions of law enforcement.
