A man, identified as David Turner, aged 61, admitted to physically assaulting his wife while they were on vacation at the Le Meridien Khao Lak Resort and Spa in Thailand on July 4, 2024. The wife, who was subjected to strangulation, punches, and kicks, recounted Turner’s aggressive behavior during the incident at Hull Crown Court. She expressed ongoing distress, detailing her fear of Turner returning to harm her even after a non-molestation order was in place.
During their holiday, Turner, his wife, their adult son, and Turner’s father were in Thailand. Turner, under the influence of alcohol, disappeared briefly before being found unwell in a bathroom. Accusing his wife of disappearing, he physically assaulted her when she tried to assist him, leading to a violent altercation. The wife endured multiple forms of abuse, including being strangled, kicked, and hit, causing significant injuries.
Following the ordeal, Turner’s wife suffered from extensive bruising on various parts of her body. Turner, who had no prior criminal record, was taken into custody upon his return to the UK. In court, it was revealed that he expressed remorse for his actions and the impact it had on their marriage of 28 years. Despite being described as hardworking and dedicated by references, Turner’s unexpected behavior was attributed to personal struggles, including health issues and business setbacks.
Turner, residing in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, received a 20-month suspended prison sentence, along with community service, probation, rehabilitation programs, compensation payment, and a restraining order as part of his sentencing. The victim shared the lasting trauma she experienced post-assault, including panic attacks, night terrors, and difficulty returning to work.
