Police have closed off a main city street and apprehended an individual following a deadly hit-and-run involving a car and a cyclist.
Law enforcement is seeking witnesses after a man lost his life on North Street in the Bedminster district of Bristol. The area was cordoned off by authorities as emergency responders attempted to save the man’s life, but unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The police reported that a vehicle fled the scene after the fatal collision, but was later found by law enforcement. A man in his twenties was taken into custody on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop, and driving while impaired, according to Avon and Somerset Police.
Witnesses mentioned at least two fire trucks and four police cars present at the scene, with ambulance crews and a helicopter also responding to the incident.
In an evening statement, the police force confirmed that they were investigating a fatal crash that occurred earlier in Bedminster.

Despite efforts from the public and emergency responders, the man died at the scene.
