Millions of Gmail users are in for a treat as they will soon have the option to switch to a brand-new email address. Google had previously hinted at this update, and now it seems to be rolling out globally. In a recent update on the Gmail blog page, Google confirmed that users can now change their Google Account email ending in gmail.com to a new address with the same domain.
This change is likely to be well-received, especially for those who wish to update their username or have experienced changes in their circumstances. However, Google emphasized that this feature is gradually being made available to all users and may not be accessible to everyone just yet.
The new system allows users to have both their old and new email addresses active simultaneously, ensuring that any emails sent to the current Gmail address will automatically be forwarded to the new one. Google assures users that all their account data, including photos, messages, and emails linked to the original address, will remain unaffected.
To check if you are eligible to switch to a new Gmail address without losing any emails, follow these steps:
– Visit myaccount.google.com/google-account-email on your computer and sign in if required.
– Click on Personal info in the top-left corner.
– Choose Email, then Google Account email.
– Click on Change Google Account email under “Google Account email.”
– If the option is not available, it may not be accessible to you yet.
– Enter the new username you desire, ensuring it has not been previously used or deleted.
– Click on Change email and confirm by selecting Yes, change email.
– Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.
Once done, your new Gmail address will become your primary account email, while the old address will be kept as an alternate email.
