A major police operation is underway after 12 people were slashed in a horror train station attack, with some people left seriously injured and federal officials called in.
Hamburg Police confirmed on social media this afternoon that a “major police operation” is underway at Hamburg Central Station which has suspended services from the major transport hub. The service said they are “investigating the background and will provide further information”.

Media outlets in Germany have claimed that three people were critically injured in the attack, with three others seriously and six slightly injured.
Norddeutscher Rundfunk claimed to cite a fire department spokesperson quoting the figures, while Bild added that some of those injured are being treated on trains.
Hamburg Police confirmed in their earlier statement that it is currently unclear about circumstances leading to today’s shocking attack.
In the first statement following early reports, the service said: “We are investigating the background and will provide further information here shortly.”
